Most people don't understand a fundamental concept of booking travel:  whether you book that cruise (or other travel product) direct through the supplier, or through Expedia (etc...), or through a travel agent, there is commission already built into the fare.  For a direct booking with a cruise line, for example, the cruise line retains that built in commission.  The fare does not become lower to you because you booked yourself.  The cruise line keeps the extra money from a booking that you now have to manage - likely without any knowledge or expertise.  Had you booked with a travel agent, you would have still paid the same fare or lower, and the travel agent would have been working in your interest to manage the booking. In fact, in many cases, a travel agent can find a better deal AND offer amenities (like on board credit OBC) that you will not find elsewhere.
